Clages is pleased to present the fourth edition of a series of interventions titled Nee danke, ich gucke nur. Visible from street level outside, this project series utilizes the inside space and architecture with the intent of connecting to the public in a time of increased social isolation and physical distancing.
Juan Pérez Agirregoikoa’s large scale pencil drawings depicting grotesquely oversized eagles are the newest extension of his "Black Chickens" series, first exhibited at Clages in 2020 before lockdown hit. This body of work explores the symbols and processes of a system that - especially in a politically charged time of global suffering and restrictions - aims to control and demonstrate power to maintain a certain order. Agirregoikoa infiltrated this iconography attempting to examine and consequently expose political mechanisms, leaving us with strangely humanized eagles that seem visibly overwhelmed in their role as symbols of authority and power.
